25 „Er schwätzt wie mir, er vespert wie mir, er schimpft wie mir.“ Kollegen über Josef Waldenmaier “He talks like me, he eats like me, he badmouths like me.“ – that‘s what colleagues had to say about Josef Waldenmaier Klar ist: Die Kompetenzen und Maschinen der Hei- denheimer machen den Betrieb wertvoll für die Rüs- tungswirtschaft und erlauben es dem Unternehmen, auch während der Kriegsjahre weiter zu wachsen. Zwischen 1915 und 1917 wird an der Meeboldstra- ße weitergebaut. Und auch der Innovationsgeist der Ingenieure bleibt ungebrochen: Am 21. April 1916 meldet die Firma ihr erstes Patent an, den „ERHARD Stoffschieber“. 1917 folgt der erste Produktkatalog mit fast 300 Seiten und über 140 Abbildungen. Am Ende des Kriegs arbeiten rund 600 Menschen bei ERHARD. Die positiven Entwicklungen für die Firma stehen dabei im Kontrast zur grausamen Realität des Welt- kriegs, der mit jedem Jahr weitere Entbehrungen er- fordert. Nach vier Jahren und unzähligen Toten endet 1918 schließlich der Erste Weltkrieg. Kaiser Wilhelm II. – Enkel von Reichsgründer Wilhelm I. aus dem Gründungsjahr ERHARDs – dankt ab und macht so den Weg frei für den Waffenstillstand. Doch er hin- terlässt gleichzeitig ein enormes Machtvakuum in einem Land, das sich in blutigen Machtkämpfen nun erst völlig neu finden muss. The positive developments for the company con- trast with the cruel reality of the world war, which demands ever more deprivations with each passing year. After four years and countless deaths, the World War I finally ends in 1918. Emperor Wilhelm II – The grandson of Wilhelm I, who founded the Empire in the same year as ERHARD was founded, abdicates thus clearing the way for the armistice. But at the same time, he leaves behind an enormous power vacuum in a country that must now find itself a new amidst bloody power struggles.
